India put themselves in a balancing position on day 1 of the Vishakapatnam test against England. Batting first, India started cautiously, thanks to the disciplined bowling by India. However, Yashasvi Jaiswal was quite dominating in the proceedings. Rohit Sharma fell for just 14 and Yashasvi had a great partnership with Shubhman Gill who scored 34. He has failed yet again to convert his start. Shreyas Iyer, Rajat Patidar, and Axar Patel have all got starts but they failed to convert them into a solid one.
Srikar Bharat too failed to grab the opportunity, he scored 17. However, Yashasvi Jaiswal held one end up and scored fluently. At the end of day 1, Yashasvi Jaiswal was on 179 and is still batting. He scored at a strike rate of 70. As a result, India were 336 for the loss of six wickets.
There isn’t much batting left and if India could reach 400 then it would be a decent target for sure. India failed to dominate the proceedings as none of their batters except Yashasvi applied themselves on the pitch which isn’t assisting spinners as expected.
While Shoaib Bashir and Rehan Ahmed picked up two wickets each, James Anderson and Tom Hartley picked up a wicket each.
