Arun Yogiraj, the Mysuru-based sculptor was behind the Ram Lalla’s idol that was now consecrated at the Ayodhya Ram Mandir. Arun Yogiraj felt he was the luckiest person on the earth. The Pran Pratishta ceremony was done in a grand style and Arun Yogiraj responded. “I am the luckiest person on Earth, the blessings of my ancestors, family members, and Ram Lalla have always been with me,” he said.
The 51-inch idol of Ram is one of the best-sculpted idols ever and the credit goes fully to Arun Yogiraj. Now, comes the question, who is Arun Yogiraj? He comes from a family where there are five generations of famous sculptors. Arun’s father Yogiraj is a skilled sculptor, and so is his grandfather Basavanna Shilpi, who worked at the King of Mysore.
Arun Yogiraj has completed his MBA and joined a private company. However, the sculptor’s blood made him leave the profession and since 2008, he has been continuing the carving profession. Some of his skilled sculptures include a 30-foot statue of Subhash Chandra Bose behind the Amar Jawan Jyoti behind the India Gate. Arun Yogiraj had also sculpted a 12-foot-tall statue of Adi Shankaracharya in Kedarnath and also the 21-foot-tall Hanuman statue at Chunchanakatte in Mysore district. Many more impressive works of Arun Yogiraj are currently installed in various places in India.
Arun Yogiraj has been recognized by various organizations and he received several awards.
