WhatsApp has threatened to exit India; Here’s why!
Popular messaging platform WhatsApp to the Delhi High Court today said that if left with no option they should leave the country. A case has been running in the Delhi High Court against the government of India and WhatsApp where the government demands to breach the encryption.
WhatsApp in the court today said that if the government asks to break the message encryption they have no option but to leave the country. As per the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules 2021, it asked the originators of any message on the platform.
Advocate Tejas Karia said that people are using WhatsApp because of its safety and privacy features and there is no way we could compromise on that.
India is the largest market for WhatsApp with over 400 million users. Delhi High Court after hearing the arguments from both the sides have postponed the next hearing to August 14th.
