U.S. Denies Targeting Indian Students Amid Visa Revocations
The U.S. government has denied that it is specifically targeting Indian students after a survey revealed that 50% of those affected by recent student visa revocations were from India. The survey, conducted by the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA), analyzed 327 responses from an estimated 4,000 revocation notices sent in the past two months. It found that Indian students represented half of the affected individuals, followed by China, South Korea, Nepal, and Bangladesh.
The issue has raised concerns ahead of U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance’s upcoming visit to India on April 21, 2025. While the Indian Ministry of External Affairs has not confirmed whether the matter will be discussed, the growing apprehension among Indian students could lead to sensitive discussions during the visit.
