Trump’s Tariff Impact: Shrimp Prices Plunge in West Godavari

The recent decision by US President Donald Trump to increase foreign tariffs on shrimp imports from India has sent shockwaves through the aquaculture industry. In just a few hours, shrimp prices have fallen drastically, with prices in West Godavari district dropping to as low as Rs. 40 per kilogram. India is the third-largest exporter of shrimp globally, with a significant portion of its exports coming from Andhra Pradesh, particularly West Godavari, where shrimp farming is done on over 1.20 lakh acres. The new tariffs have raised concerns among local farmers who are already struggling with investment costs.
