Tollywood producers: Early digital releases to kill theatrical experience
Looking for easy money, Tollywood producers are killing the theatrical cinema experience. If a new movie is available to stream on the OTT platforms within 3-4 weeks of the theatrical release, will the audiences be interested in watching the film in theaters?
Tollywood producers are ignoring this simple logic. They recently had a meeting and pledged to stream their cinemas only after the 8-week theatrical run. However, many producers are ignoring this deal. They are giving permissions for early digital releases.
Recently, Guntur Kaaram was available within a week of its theatrical release. Now, Vijay Deverakonda’s Family Star is available to stream on Amazon Prime Video. The film was released on April 5th and now within three weeks, it is available to stream. Even Tillu Square was streaming within four weeks.
If the top producers’ are not implementing the 8-week window rule, then the medium and small-budget film producers have no other option but to go for it. Then it in turn will kill the theatrical audiences.
