Martin Luther King Jr has a huge importance in the history of United States of America. Every third Monday of January is a federal holiday and is observed as the Martin Luther King Jr Day. On this day, let us know the importance of it.

Martin Luther King was a civil rights activist. He was a leader in the movement to end racial discrimination in USA. His speech ‘I have a dream’ advocates non-violent protest and was one of the iconic speeches in the history of America. Martin Luther King Jr. became the youngest recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize. He was assassinated in 1968. It was made at the Lincoln Memorial on Aug. 28, 1963, during the 1963 March on Washington, D.C.

Martin Luther King day was first celebrated for the first time in the year 1986. However it was not implemented in all states till the year 2000. In 1990, the Wyoming Legislature recognized Martin Luther King Jr./Wyoming Equality Day as a legal holiday.
