Salaar review and rating

Salaar review and rating

Rebel Star Prabhas and Prashant Neel combination itself is enough for the fans to get excited. Salaar Part One: CeaseFire has set the right expectations from the word go. Though there are no promotions except for a couple of interviews, Salaar has tremendously been one of the much-awaited movies this year. The advance bookings of Salaar are excellent. The movie was finally released today and let us check out the review.

Story:

Salaar Part One revolves around the kingdom of Salaar. The king’s son Varda Raja Mannan (Prithviraj) gets into trouble due to internal politics. He has no option but to call his old friend Deva (Prabhas). The rest of the story is all about how Deva stands for his friend. Will he be successful in his mission?

Performances:

Prabhas looks good onscreen. However, matching the mood of the film, Prabhas looks dull and has minimal dialogue all over the film. He is, however, terrific in the action sequences. There are some heavy-duty action stunts, particularly in the second half and Prabhas justifies his cutout.

Prithviraj Sukumaran is decent in his performance. His role has some limitations as he is not the main lead. His dubbing has some Malayalam touch and will take some time to adjust. He should be appreciated for dubbing his lines in the first attempt.

Shruti Haasan’s character has nothing much to do. Her character is designed in such a way that it irritates at times. Jagapati Babu is just okay. He has nothing much to do. Sriya Reddy and Eswari Rao do justice to their characters. Bobby Simha and Tinu Anand are just fine. The others are okay.

Technicalities:

Ravi Basrur scores the music for this movie. However, it doesn’t have the feel of the impact of KGF. Sooreede song stands out. The background music gradually improves in the second half. Ujwal Kulkarni’s editing could have been much better.

The Cinematography completely gives KGF-feel. There is this dark tint all over and this should have to do with the director Prashant Neel. The production values are grand just like KGF.

Prashant Neel has taken another story with Grandeur all over. However, contrary to what has been said, the drama doesn’t work as expected. But, the action blocks work wonders. There are at least 2-3 action blocks which give goosebumps to the audience.

Analysis:

Salaar Part One: CeaseFire is a treat for action lovers. While the first half is decent, the 20-minute interval block will make you whistle. The second half has at least 2 action blocks which works out very well. The climax portions stands out as well. Had Prashant Neel taken care of the drama part, Salaar would have been a special film. Nevertheless, Salaar Part One: CeaseFire can be watched for its action part.

Rating: 3/5
