Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has proposed a law to replace vehicle horns with sounds from Indian musical instruments. Speaking at the 78th Foundation Year Celebration of Navbharat Times on April 21, Gadkari suggested using instruments like the flute, tabla, violin, and harmonium as vehicle horns, aiming to make them more pleasant to hear.
Gadkari also highlighted the transport sector’s significant contribution to air pollution, noting that it accounts for 40% of the country’s pollution. He emphasized the government’s push for eco-friendly vehicles, including those powered by bio-fuels such as methanol and ethanol. Additionally, Gadkari mentioned India’s growth in the automobile sector, surpassing Japan to become the third-largest automobile market in the world.
