Modi Govt Issues Advisory to Media on Coverage of Defence Operations
In a significant move citing national security concerns, the Modi government has issued a strict advisory to media outlets, news platforms, and social media users, urging them not to live broadcast or report real-time details of defence operations. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting emphasized that sharing sensitive visuals or unverified information could jeopardize ongoing missions and personnel safety.
Referring to past incidents like the Kargil War and 26/11 attacks, the advisory reminded media of the potential risks of unregulated coverage. Under Rule 6(1)(p) of the Cable TV Networks (Amendment) Rules, 2021, live coverage of anti-terror operations is already restricted. The government urged all platforms to practice restraint, prioritize national interest, and adhere strictly to legal and ethical guidelines.
