Measles Outbreak in USA Raises Global Concern

The United States is facing a growing measles outbreak, with over 600 cases reported so far this year double the number from 2023. Western Texas has been hit the hardest, with more than 480 cases and two recent child deaths.

The affected children were unvaccinated, highlighting concerns over rising vaccine hesitancy. US Health Secretary Robert F Kennedy Jr visited Texas and pledged support, including vaccine distribution.

Doctors stress that measles is highly contagious but preventable. Two doses of the MMR vaccine offer 97% protection. Indian health experts are advising families to stay updated on routine vaccinations in view of the global rise.
