Mark Carney’s Liberals Win Canada Election Amid Trump’s Trade War Threats

Canada’s ruling Liberal Party, led by Prime Minister Mark Carney, has secured a narrow victory in Monday’s federal election, with projections showing the Liberals leading or elected in 165 seats, falling short of the 172 needed for a majority. The Conservative Party follows with 147 seats, while the Bloc Québécois is projected to win 23, and the NDP is expected to claim just 7.

Carney had campaigned on securing a strong mandate to confront U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariffs and annexation threats. In his victory speech, Carney vowed to fight back against Trump’s policies, declaring, “President Trump is trying to break us so that America can own us, that will never ever happen.” The newly re-elected Prime Minister pledged to protect Canada’s sovereignty and navigate the challenging economic landscape caused by Trump’s actions.
