Punjab Kings, the team which is on the verge of elimination from the race of playoffs hindered the chances of Chennai Super Kings in yesterday’s match. With this win, Punjab Kings still have a chance to qualify. On the other hand, Chennai Super Kings had lost a major opportunity to be in the top 3. CSK is still in the top 4 but the major win for Punjab meant that their run rate hit a major blow. However, CSK’s NRR is still healthier.
Batting first, CSK only managed to post a moderate total of 162. CSK’s batters couldn’t get going against the quality of the Punjab bowlers. Harpreet Brar in particular was excellent. He bowled 4 overs and gave away only 17 runs by the end of 2 wickets. Similarly, Rahul Chahar bowled beautifully for 16/2. Spinners choked the middle overs and even big hitters like Sameer Rizvi and MS Dhoni couldn’t get going.
Chasing a moderate total, the Punjab Kings haven’t had any major blows. They comfortably chased the total in under 18 overs with 7 wickets to spare.
