Hyderabad Partners with NRSC to Monitor Land Encroachments Using Satellite Data

In a major step to curb land encroachments and protect public assets, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) has signed an MoU with the National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC). The agreement aims to utilize satellite data for real-time monitoring of lakes, government lands, roads, and other public properties.

HMDA Commissioner A.V. Ranganath and NRSC Director Prakash Chauhan signed the documents formalizing the partnership. Ranganath stated that HMDA has begun the process of making detailed land records within the Outer Ring Road (ORR) accessible to the public. Satellite-based mapping will provide accurate information on the location and size of lakes, condition of canals and drains, and precise boundaries of government lands and parks. This initiative is expected to enhance transparency and prevent illegal land
