Farmers’ Body SKM Calls for Effigy Burning to Protest U.S. Trade Pressure
The Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) on Monday called for protests across India, urging farmers to burn effigies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, U.S. President Donald Trump, and U.S. Vice-President J.D. Vance at all district headquarters. The move is a response to what SKM alleges are U.S. efforts to pressure India into accepting unfair trade terms and allowing the dumping of American agricultural products.
In a statement following its general body meeting in Delhi on Sunday, SKM accused the U.S. of seeking unregulated access for its food chains and agribusiness corporations in India, which the group says threatens the livelihoods of Indian farmers.
The protests are part of a broader campaign by SKM to resist foreign influence in India’s agriculture sector and protect domestic food sovereignty.
