Dunki movie review and rating
Two of India’s top film personalities Shahrukh Khan and Raj Kumar Hirani have teamed up for the movie Dunki. The film gets released today and let us check out whether they have weaved magic together.
Story:
Balli, Buggu, Sukhi (Vicky Kaushal), and Manu (Taapsee Pannu) want to go to London despite not having any qualifications. They are not proficient in English, don’t have any financial resources, nothing. When they think their doors are closed for London, soldier Hardy Singh (SRK) arrives in their lives.
Hardy Singh falls for Manu instantly. Hardy tries hard for their visas but when their hopes are exhausted, Sukhi’s decision changes their lives forever. They take the ‘Dunki’ route to reach London.
Despite being a soldier, will Hardy Singh accept it? Will the London aspirants reach their target?
Performances:
Unlike SRK’s previous films this year, he plays a rather normal role in Dunki. It is refreshing to see the actor Shahrukh than the star Shahrukh. He is excellent in the emotional scenes in Dunki. Particularly, the courtroom scene in England.
Taapsee Pannu perfected the role of Manu. She is excellent in many ways. Vicky Kaushal stands out from the group. Despite the brief role, his performance will be remembered.
Vikram Kochhar and Anil Grover are fine in their roles. Boman Irani is adequate.
Technicalities:
Raj Kumar Hirani is one of the finest directors we have in the country. He usually takes 3-4 years for every movie and we know why. His films are that perfect. However, with Dunki we can say he stumbled a bit. Hirani picked a single thread-like storyline. Hirani tried to give his style of treatment for this emotional subject involving illegal immigrants. Raj Kumar Hirani has a brand, though the film is engaging at times, at the end the audience might feel something is lacking.
The story is thin and the narration has an up-and-down feel. However, Dunki has its moments. The first half is breezy, the interval has depth. The second half has some problems. The ending might not give the audience a full package feel.
The music is surprisingly just okay, this is not what we expect from a Hirani movie. The BGM is all right. The cinematography is very neat. The editing is fine. The production values are just top-notch.
Analysis:
We can safely say that Dunki is a decent one-time watch. But here we are watching a Raj Kumar Hirani film and that too, has SRK in the lead role. We expect nothing but the best. The same is not delivered. If you keep expectations in check then Dunki could be your choice this weekend.
