Devil movie review and rating

Nandamuri Kalyan Ram often excites the audiences with his unique script selection. Devil is one such film that looked unique right from the word go and was released today. Let us check out the review of the movie.

Story:

The Devil story was set in Rasapadu, British Province. British Secret Agent Devil (Nandamuri Kalyan Ram) was assigned the task of solving the murder mystery of Zamindar’s daughter, Vijaya (Ammu Abhirami). Devil unearths some shocking facts about the death which results in Devil getting a new mission, “Operation Tiger Hunt”.

What is the connection between the murder mystery and the new murder? Will Devil be successful in chasing Operation Tiger Hunt?

Performances:

Nandamuri Kalyan Ram’s styling is impressive. He has been good in his role. He emotes quite well. Kalyan Ram mouths some powerful dialogues effortlessly. He is flawless.

Samyuktha has got a lengthy role but her character wasn’t designed properly. Otherwise, her performance is adequate. Malvika Nair will be seen in a brief role but there is nothing much to say about her performance, which is again due to the character arc.

Satya, Srikanth Iyengar, Ajay, Shafi, Elnaaz, and others will be seen in important roles and they did their job.

Technicalities:

Music by Harshavardhan Rameshwar is flat. It is quite shocking to see him score mediocre tunes while his work was commended a few weeks back in Animal. The BGM is ordinary as well. While the cinematography is neat, the artwork is stunning. The editing could have been better. The production values are satisfactory.

The story of this film has multiple layers and a lot of work has undergone in writing it. However, the screenplay has a problem. The first half is not engaging enough, except for the interval block. The second half picks up at a decent pace.

Analysis:

Overall, Devil gives a mixed-bag feeling. If the first half had been a bit better, and the female lead characters worked well, then Devil would have been an extraordinary film. Nevertheless, Devil is not a bad film, it is a subpar period action drama.
