Azharuddin Hits Back After HCA Ordered to Remove His Name from Uppal Stadium Stand
Former India captain Mohammad Azharuddin has vowed to challenge the Hyderabad Cricket Association’s (HCA) order to remove his name from the North Stand at Uppal Stadium, calling the move “disrespectful.” The decision, handed down by the HCA’s Ethics Officer, found Azharuddin guilty of conflict of interest for renaming the stand after himself in 2019 while serving as HCA president.
The Ethics Officer ruled that the decision violated Rule 38 of the HCA’s constitution and lacked General Body approval. The stand will now revert to its original name, the “VVS Laxman Pavilion.” Azharuddin slammed the verdict as “laughable” and said it insulted his long service to Indian cricket. Meanwhile, the Lords Cricket Club, which filed the complaint, hailed the ruling as a victory for transparency and ethics in sports governance.
