For the first time in American TV history, Public Television Stations across the United States are going to telecast a new documentary show on the inspiring life of Swami Vivekananda. The documentary is titled ‘America’s First Guru’. Raja Choudhury is the director of this documentary and Samrat Chakrabarti plays the lead role. This documentary, ‘America’s First Guru’ is going to be telecasted in May 2024.
Speaking about the documentary the director said that it tells a compelling story of how Yoga, Vedanta, and the highest ideals of Indian Wisdom first entered the popular American conversation in 1893 with the arrival of Swami Vivekananda at the First World’s Parliament of Religion in Chicago. The documentary also describes how Vivekananda became America’s First Guru.
The Dharma Endowment Foundation (Michael Singer), Sumir Chadha, Surja Bose, and others have funded this documentary and the production began in 2022. The other cast includes Swami Sarvapriyananda, Swami Medhananda, Ruth Harris, AL Bardach, Jeffery Long, and Phil Goldberg. The teaser of this documentary features the speech of Barack Obama and the compelling story of Swami Vivekananda and his influence on Rockefeller, J D Salinger, Nikola Tesla, Aldous Huxley, Joseph Campbell, and many others.
