Amaravati to Become World’s First Fully Renewable Energy Capital City
Andhra Pradesh’s upcoming capital, Amaravati, is set to become the world’s first city fully powered by renewable energy, officials announced. With a projected green energy capacity of 2,700 MW, the city will harness solar, wind, and hydropower to meet all its electricity needs.
Planned along the Krishna river between Vijayawada and Guntur, Amaravati is being developed as a ₹65,000-crore ultra-modern, eco-friendly city spread over 217 sq km. Key infrastructure, including public transport, housing, and administrative buildings, will follow green norms, with solar panels, EV charging stations, and a district cooling system being major features. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to lay the foundation stone next month.
