Wrestler Bajrang Punia announces to return his Padma Shri
The wrestlers were quite distressed over the election of Sanjay Singh, a close aide of Brij Bhushan Singh as the president of the Wrestler Federation of India. As a mark of protest, yesterday wrestler Sakshi Malik announced her retirement and left her shoes on the table. She was in tears after the decision was made.
Now, Olympic medal winner Bajrang Punia has announced that he is returning the Padma Shri, India’s fourth-highest civilian award. Bajrang took to social media X and shared a long letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In the letter, he announced the decision to return Padma Shri as justice wasn’t served to the Women’s wrestlers in the country.
He posted, “I am returning my Padmashree award to the Prime Minister. This is just my letter to say. This is my statement.” Bajrang Punia in the letter stated that despite the government’s promise to take strong action against Brij Bhushan Singh, nothing of such sort happened. Now, his loyal supporter has been elected as the WFI President.
