Popular newspaper Andhra Jyothi carried an article on the ruling party YSR Congress that they have mortgaged AP Secretariat which was located in Velagapudi to HDFC bank for a loan of Rs. 370 Crores. The news went viral and the criticism started from every corner.
The government’s official fact-checker stated that it was fake news and the government is going to file an official complaint on the newspaper to the Press Trust of India. Keeping this aside, YSR Congress leader Kodali Nani’s reaction to this issue backfired big time.
Kodali Nani questioned what was wrong with mortgaging the government’s property. “It is quite a common practice for the government to mortgage its properties. Does it belong to Chandrababu Naidu? At best the worth of the land is Rs. 20 Crores. Did BR Ambedkar write in the constitution not to mortgage the government’s properties? Or is there in the constitution what to mortgage and what not to,” said Nani in a video byte.
With his statement two things are clear. The government mortgaged the Secretariat and the second one shows the sad financial state of Andhra Pradesh.
