England’s hopes of ending India’s tour on a high came crashing on the first day itself. Day 1 started positively for them. Winning the toss, England elected to bat first on a batting beauty. Both Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett gave England a good start. At one point, England was 100/1 and at another point, they were 175/3. However, the middle order failed once again.
Zak Crawley batted patiently and scored a fluent 79. All the England top five had reached double digits but failed to cash on. Kuldeep Yadav is instrumental in England’s top-order failure. He picked up a wicket in his first over and never looked back. Kuldeep Yadav bagged five wickets in the innings and in the process even reached 50 test wickets. While Jadeja picked up a wicket, Ravi Ashwin cleaned up the tail by bagging four wickets. As a result, England was bundled out for just 218.
In response, India’s openers gave a great start to the innings. Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma gave another 100 partnership. Yashasvi departed after scoring a 100. Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill made sure another wicket didn’t fall. At the Stumps, India was 135/1 still trailing by 83 runs.
