Guntur Kaaram movie review and rating

Super Star Mahesh Babu and Trivikram Srinivas are a classic combination. They have delivered films like Athadu and Khaleja. As a result, the expectations are massive for Guntur Kaaram. The film was finally released today.

Story:

Vasundhara (Ramya Krishnan) leaves his husband Satyam (Jayaram) and son Ramana (Mahesh Babu) under the influence of his father Vyra Venkata Swamy (Prakash Raj). Ramana grows into a reckless guy in Guntur. He falls in love with the daughter (Sreeleela) of a lawyer (Murali Sharma) who works for Vyra.

The rest of the story is all about the tussle between Ramana and how he brings back Vasundhara.

Performances:

Mahesh is super energetic in Guntur Kaaram. It is so refreshing to see. He carries the whole movie on his shoulders. Be it dialogue delivery, action sequences, or comedy timing, Mahesh aces it all.

Sreeleela is good to see onscreen. As Usual, she dances like a dream. Meenakshi Chaudhary was seen in an extended cameo. Ramya Krishnan and Prakash Raj have played strong characters in the movie and they are impressive.

Eeswari Rao, Rao Ramesh, Murali Sharma, Jayaram, and Sunil played their parts well as the supporting cast members. Ajay, Brahmaji, Ajay Ghosh, and Vennela Kishore entertained well in the movie.

Technicalities:

Trivikram Srinivas is always known for his strong writing. But sadly and shockingly, for Guntur Kaaram, his writing is the weakest. There are not many high moments whatsoever in the first half except for Mahesh’s energetic performance. The second half has a strong story but the moments could have been a lot better.

SS Thaman has given the below-par songs. The background music is not-so-impressive either. There is inconsistency in his work. The editing could have been better. The production values of the movie are quite good.

Analysis:

Guntur Kaaram is a sub-par action family drama. Apart from Mahesh’s impressive performance, there is nothing much to talk about. Trivikram Srinivas who is known for his strong writing has fumbled this time. This is easily his weakest work after Agnatavasi. At the same time, Guntur Kaaram could work with the family audiences for this Sankranthi.

Rating: 2.5
