Mirza Riyaz Ul Hassan Effendi Wins Hyderabad MLC Election

All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) candidate Mirza Riyaz Ul Hassan Effendi was elected as the Member of Legislative Council (MLC) from the Hyderabad Local Authorities (HLA) constituency in Telangana on April 23. He defeated BJP’s N Gautham Rao by 38 votes in a closely contested election, with a voter turnout of 78.5%. The election was held due to the impending term completion of M S Prabhakar Rao on May 1. The contest was mainly between AIMIM and BJP, with Congress offering support to AIMIM and BRS abstaining from the polls.
