No GST on UPI Transactions Over ₹2,000, Government Clarifies

The Finance Ministry has clarified that there will be no Goods and Services Tax (GST) levied on UPI transactions exceeding ₹2,000. The government dismissed recent reports suggesting that GST would be imposed on such transactions as “completely false, misleading, and without any basis.”

In a statement, the Ministry reassured the public that UPI payments, a widely used digital payment method in India, will remain free from GST. The clarification comes after concerns were raised following rumors about a potential tax on larger UPI transactions.
